Welcome to our website.
The choir welcomes new members any time of the year. We are a community choir. There is no audition to join. Frome youth choir attracts members from Frome, Bath, and surrounding villages. We are always happy to encourage older members whether you have sung with a choir or not. The only requirement is enjoyment of singing or taking an opportunity of giving it a go. Young people who have joined the choir have been amazed at discovering the singing potential they did not think they had.
Time: 6.00pm – 7.45pm
St John’s School, Christchurch Street East, Frome
If you are unsure if joining a choir is for you, just come along for one evening and try it out for free or check out the Mad March Tea Concert.
Frome Youth Choir was formed in 1984 to provide opportunities for young people aged 6 to 18, supported by teachers and choir directors, to develop singing across Frome area.
Frome Youth Choir is one of Somerset’s finest community based youth choirs, offering young singers from the area exceptional training and performance experience.
Artistically led by the talented Musical Directors Nikki Hewson and Alicia Little, who are supported by a committee of volunteers and parent helpers. The choir is a brilliant place to meet new people who share the same interests.
Regardless of ability you can join and we pride ourselves on our total inclusion policy. We believe that all children should be given the opportunity to learn to sing, there is no need to audition to become a member of Frome Youth Choir.
The choir’s repertoire covers a wide variety of musical styles including Classica, Jazz, Folk, Pop, Rock, Musical Theatre and World Music.
A young singer can begin with Junior Choir at the age of six, when then around the age of twelve years old, they move to the Senior Choir where the members have the opportunity to continue their singing throughout their teenage years, nurturing their changing voices and experiencing more and more the enjoyment and satisfaction of singing in harmony together.
At Frome Youth Choir we believe in giving our singers the opportunity to perform in many diverse venues, such as; local theatres, Jackdaws, Bath Guildhall and Wells Cathedral, as well as the world renowned Stourhead Music Festival Of Voice.
Our members have the opportunity to make CD’S and DVDs working with and alongside other talented musicians. Our musical repertoire is carefully chosen to complement, challenge and develop young voices.
As well as a full calendar of events, our annual programme ends with the sell-out candlelight Christmas concert which take place at Trinity Church in Frome. Usually a generous audience collection will be donated to a charity that has significance to an individual choir member or the group as a whole. The evening is rounded off with mulled wine and mince pies.
